Making Online Learning Palatable

Over the past few years, I’ve been working with a client to develop online training for the masses. When we first started on this venture, the client (who I’ll keep nameless), didn’t necessarily know what to do or where to start? What technology do I use? Where do I learn about this? Sure, there are lots of different organizations out there (some of which I admire very much) that give resources and information on the subject of online learning but it is not too often that I find resources for my clients that make online learning palatable.

This is often why organizations hire consultants to figure it out for them. The cost can be expensive and the time it takes is extensive. A lot of clients move you in a specific way that they tend to go. But a small business of a few needs a customized solution with proven measures.

So, before you begin the travels of online learning, ask yourself a few questions.

1) Why do I want to investigate online learning as a training solution?
2) Am I doing this because it is what is expected? Or do I truly believe there will be a cost savings?
3) What investment and I willing to put forth for an expected return on investment?

I was tempted to write about Google+ today, or Saba Classroom(a learning management system), or presentation skills, but that is for another day. Today I just felt I had to get this one out.
